Mission:

The Behaviour Analysis and Psychological Wellbeing SIG connects UK-based behaviour analysts who are committed to exploring and advancing the role of behaviour analysis in supporting psychological wellbeing. Our focus spans individuals, families, professionals, and broader communities.

What We Do:

Our group is dedicated to interventions rooted in behavioural principles—emphasising functional analysis and the contextual nature of behaviour—to foster meaningful, sustainable change. We highlight language-based approaches that are consistent with behaviour analytic frameworks and support individuals across a range of mental health and wellbeing challenges.

Our learning and development will focus on a range of evidence-informed behavioural approaches including, but not limited to:

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Constructional Approaches
  • Motivational Interviewing
  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
  • Functional Analytic Psychotherapy (FAP)
  • Compassion Focused Therapy
  • Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)

Our Aims:

  • To promote a behaviour analytic framework for psychological wellbeing that is not tied to any single modality.
  • To support the ethical and competent expansion of behaviour analysts’ scope of practice in line with UK-SBA’s standards.
  • To foster peer mentorship, skill development, and collaborative learning within the UK-SBA community.
  • To cultivate links with other contextual and functional practitioners.
  • To support diversity of thought and lived experience in how we conceptualise and respond to psychological wellbeing.

Key Activities:

  • Four SIG meetings per year
  • One free online event annually
  • Development of a database of conceptual and empirical resources
  • Ongoing peer mentorship and training opportunities

We welcome all UK-SBA members who are passionate about applying behaviour analysis to supporting psychological wellbeing.
