Mission Statement

The Behaviour Analysis in the NHS SIG connects, supports, and advocates for a dedicated network of practitioners, researchers, and consultants working both within and alongside the National Health Service (NHS).

While our discipline currently sits structurally under the broader umbrella of psychology services, behaviour analysis is a distinct, specialized discipline requiring its own distinct clinical and professional architecture. Our primary mission is to establish a unified, influential voice capable of informing national healthcare policy, shaping clinical procedures, and designing missing organizational frameworks that are not yet established within the NHS. By uniting professionals across trusts, we aim to standardize high-quality service delivery, protect staff wellbeing, and champion clear working directives to support patient outcomes to the absolute highest standard.

What We Do
  • Advocate for Policy & Strategy: Build an authoritative network to co-design and inform clinical policies, localized care pathways, and healthcare procedures where behaviour analytic standards are currently absent.
  • Define Professional Identity: Establish clear operational distinctions for behaviour analysis as a standalone discipline separate from traditional psychological frameworks.
  • Develop Career Infrastructure: Work proactively toward building robust governance structures, including dedicated career supervisions, professional development pathways, and bespoke workforce contracts.
  • Align with National Frameworks: Push for standardized recognition across the NHS, advocating for accurate banding, role parity, and alignment with the Agenda for Change (AfC) job evaluation profiles.
  • Optimize Patient Care: Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) to ensure patients receive evidence-based, data-driven, and highly specialized behavioural interventions.
