We are delighted to announce our next online Speakers’ Series featuring presentations from accomplished behaviour analysts.

All sessions are hosted by Eventbrite and all will be recorded.
APDs/CEUs: A total of 12 APDs/CEUs are available to collect, these are included in the registration fee
For those that cannot attend the live sessions, all sessions will be recorded for you to complete at a time convenient to you. Recorded sessions will be available to complete from 30 days after the last live session and until 31st December 2027.

All APDs/CEUs will be available for those attending the live and recorded workshops.
All APDs are applicable to the requirement of 16 specified APD for all UKBA(cert) and UKiBA certification renewals.

Speaker: Laura Higgins
Title: “Nothing About Us Without… Oh, We’ve Already Decided!” Moving from consultation to genuine co-production in behaviour support
Summary: “Nothing About Us Without Us” has become a familiar phrase across health and social care—but how often do we truly live it?
This interactive session will challenge delegates to reflect on the difference between involving people and genuinely sharing power. Drawing on real examples from learning disability services, we will explore how behaviour support, restrictive practice reduction and quality improvement are transformed when people with lived experience are equal partners rather than passive participants.
Central to this session are the voices of people with lived experience, who have shaped the content, shared their perspectives and challenged traditional professional assumptions. Through video, direct contributions and lived experience narratives, delegates will hear first-hand what good behaviour support feels like—not simply what professionals think it should look like.
Together we will explore:
- Why “co-production” is often misunderstood.
- The hidden barriers that prevent authentic participation.
- Practical ways behaviour analysts and multidisciplinary teams can embed lived experience into assessment, intervention and service improvement.
- How sharing power leads to better outcomes, fewer restrictive practices and more meaningful lives.
Delegates will leave with practical ideas, reflective questions and renewed confidence to ensure that the principle of Nothing About Us Without Us becomes an everyday reality rather than a slogan.
This presentation has been developed in partnership with people with lived experience and promotes inclusive practice by ensuring that the perspectives of people with learning disabilities and autistic people are represented throughout. The session actively challenges traditional power imbalances, promotes equitable participation and aligns with the principles of the Equality Act 2010, human rights-based practice and the UK-SBA’s commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion. Diverse lived experiences, accessible communication and co-production are integral to both the design and delivery of the session.

Speaker: Cody Morris
Title: Maximizing Client Involvement in Therapeutic Decisions
Summary: Effective and ethical behavior-analytic services involve client-centered practices that ensure therapeutic decisions are in the best interest of the individual receiving services. A fundamental aspect of client-centered practices is involving clients in therapeutic decisions as much as possible. Several distinct strategies for involving clients in therapeutic decisions have been described in behavior-analytic literature but have seldom been conceptualized or referenced in relation to one another. The purpose of this talk is to review the similarities, differences, and overlaps in common strategies that can be used to involve clients in therapeutic decisions so that they can all be used to maximum effect.

Title: From Research to Practice: Using Indices of Happiness and Unhappiness to Assess Quality of Life.
Summary: This presentation will provide an overview of research on the use of indices of happiness and unhappiness as quality of life indicators for autistic children. It will highlight the importance of individualizing these indices and offer step-by-step guidance on how to do this in practice. Key findings from the research will be presented alongside their implications for practice.

Speaker: Rachael Emery
Title: Supporting Sexual Wellbeing Beyond Behaviour Reduction: Preference, Safety and Dignified Access
Summary: This session focuses on supporting Autistic people and people with Learning Disabilities, where sexual behaviour may be understood as pleasure seeking, self-stimulatory, or connected to unmet sexual wellbeing needs. The session will explore how practitioners can move beyond behaviour reduction and risk-only responses, towards support that considers dignity, privacy, capacity, consent, communication, safety, preference and quality of life.
Participants will be encouraged to think critically about broad behavioural explanations such as “automatic reinforcement” or “sensory-maintained behaviour”, and consider how more nuanced understanding of the person’s need may lead to safer, more respectful and better-matched support. The session will introduce a practical approach to help behaviour analysts and PBS practitioners move from “how do we stop this?” to “what does this person need to access sexual wellbeing safely, privately and with dignity?” It aims to support ethical, person-centred and rights-informed practice in an area that is often avoided, misunderstood or restricted.

Title: Behaviour, Trauma, and Safety: Applying ABA in Domestic Violence Contexts
Summary: Where does behaviour analysis contribute to domestic violence prevention and intervention? Furthermore, how can practitioners ensure that their work remains ethical, trauma-informed, and survivor-centred?
This interactive workshop explores the intersection of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) and domestic violence, with a focus on coercive control, trauma, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Participants will examine how behavioral principles can illuminate patterns within abusive relationships while avoiding interventions that may unintentionally replicate coercive dynamics.
Designed for behaviour analysts and helping professionals alike, this session includes case discussions, audience engagement activities, and practical strategies for integrating safety, autonomy, and cultural responsiveness into practice.
Join us as we explore both the possibilities and limitations of behavior analysis in one of the most complex areas of human service work.
